How can I found out about Volunteering Opportunities?

Volunteer Centre East Hampshire is affiliated to Volunteering England and subscribes to the national volunteering opportunity database managed by do-it. As part of this, the Centre maintains a locally updated register of voluntary organisations and their volunteering opportunities. For each opportunity, the database holds information about where the opportunity is located, when volunteers are required and what skills if any are needed. The database also has comprehensive search facilities so that volunteer preferences can be matched to specific opportunities.

If you are interested in finding a local volunteering opportunity then you can visit the Volunteer centre in person at Petersfield or call us on 01730 710017. In a short, informal and confidential discussion we try to find out a little bit about what you are interested in doing, and when you might be available. We can then search our local do-it database of opportunities and try to find the ones that best match your own preferences. We then contact the relevant organisation and normally they will contact you directly to progress your volunteering interest.

We also regularly upload most of our opportunities to the national do-it database (sometimes organisations don't want their opportunities uploaded and so these can only be viewed locally), as do most of the Volunteer Centres across the country.

So, if you have access to the internet, you can look at the volunteering opportunities in any area by searching for opportunities by postcode on the do-it web site at www.do-it.org.uk. You can also find your nearest Volunteer Centre, again by searching the do-it web site by postcode.

The site also has links to organisations that offer volunteering holidays, both in the UK and overseas.
